Burnley chairmen keen to keep Austin

BURNLEY’S joint chairmen have insisted they have no plans to sell star striker Charlie Austin, and believe the Clarets may have attracted more interest for their managerial vacancy than rivals Blackburn Rovers.

New Clarets boss Sean Dyche was yesterday presented to the media for the first time yesterday after fending off a host of other contenders for the chance to succeed the departed Eddie Howe at Turf Moor.

Co-chairmen Mike Garlick and John Banaszkiewicz spoke highly of Dyche and confirmed they wanted to keep hold of leading scorer Austin.

The striker has scored a stunning 18 goals in 15 games so far this season to leave Burnley fans fearing that richer clubs will tempt him away from Turf Moor in January.

But, although the club are unable to rule out a transfer if they receive an offer they cannot refuse, Garlick said: “We’ve got no plans to sell him.”

Banaszkiewicz added: “We will do our best to keep him. Obviously that’s the key to our team right now.”

Meanwhile Garlick and Banaszkiewicz conducted a host of interviews with candidates for the club’s managerial vacancy, at a time when Blackburn were also searching for a boss.

“There was a lot of interest in the job, probably more interest in it than our rivals because people saw us as a good solid club with a good ownership structure,” said Garlick.

“People like myself and John, local lads rather than foreign owned.”

Dyche’s home is in Northampton but the chairmen believe that will be less of an issue than it was for Howe, who left to be nearer to his family in Bournemouth.

“Sean does live in the Midlands and I live in Hertfordshire so we’re actually quite close as well so it’s easy to meet up if we need to rather than flying to India,” said Garlick.

“I think Sean was one of the first candidates we met.

“We had a round of first interviews which went on for about a week and a half and he always stuck in our mind. He made a hell of an impression.”

Banaszkiewicz said: “He certainly had us on the edge of our seats when we first met him.

“He commanded our attention and he did stand out as a really disciplined, confident, motivating guy who can get the best out of players.

“That is what we really wanted.”

Have we a read between the lines paragraph here? I think eventually Charlie will be like Jay and will go but it would be foolish to let him go in January and hope Sean made keeping Charlie as part of conditions to take the job. A longer term with BFC (as long as his form/goal rate continues should see his transfer value soar beyond what Wolves received for Fletcher.

Good dig at BRFC regarding managerial applicants and the flying to India, although I truly believe the manager should live locally; Ian Holloway living nearby is a perfect example.

Be interesting to see how the "New Manager Effect" has against Wolves tomorrow, more especial on Tuesday against Leeds. Not forgetting of course when the Chickenpluckers come on 2nd Dec where I think the "crowing" rights will belong to the Turf - - Cue Infantile comments from such as Chico, RuInsane and EddyO

Not really commented on the bstrds situation, more giving the reasons behind why we were more attractive to the pool of potential managers than you are. I know you don't like being told we have more pull than you, but it is a fact.
If he were to comment on the bstrd situation he would say something like...More mangers wanted to come to Burnley than bstrds because they are the laughing stock of football. Regarding interest for the manager’s job – who exactly was interested in Burnley? I don’t recall anybody of any note applying for the Burnley hot seat. Hence the appointment of a kit man who goes by the name Sean Dyche. And if you do lose Austin in January then Burnley are finished in the championship, because Austin singlehandedly is keeping you up. I can’t wait for the January transfer window, when we will be making signings and you will be selling your best player’s as per usual.

I think you'll find the defence will be well sorted by December and the goals from the Clarets will still be prolific.

Get used to hearing the Crowing rights coming from the Turf as you Chickens get well and truly stuffed. Can't beat a bit of Sage and Onion, hmm think I'll have my Christmas Dinner early - that night.

Time to set the clock counter to zero and watch as the Clarets go harig past you for the re of the season.

No one can doubt that Austin is having a fantastic start to the season but the problem is that for every goal Charlie scores we will concede three mentality. If Austin is to stay then there needs to be significant investment in the defence or who can blame him for going to a big club with ambition like Howe and Coyle did. Without his goals relegation becomes a serious reality.
