Blackburn Rovers rename Darwen End after Douglas

BLACKBURN Rovers have tonight renamed Ewood Park's Darwen End after club legend Bryan Douglas.

The 78-year-old scored 115 goals in 503 appearances for Rovers and the Bryan Douglas Darwen End was unveiled at a special dinner tonight.

A year ago Rovers renamed the Blackburn End after Douglas' great friend and fellow legend Ronnie Clayton, who died in 2010.

A fitting tribute.

Now please can we make the Riverside the "Tony Parkes Stand" before Shebby realises there's a self promotion opportunity he han't exploited yet !

Congratulations on Henning Berg.
We all need to get behind him and the team.
He was a good solid professional
and I hope he brings in some decent new players from his area of the world. ( Scandinavia )
BRFC can really win promotion this year providing we all get together and support the team, so come on lets get promoted together.
Ok, we need some players....
what players would you recommend to HB..?
What players are not good enough..?

I believe we need a good left back, a right back and a fast winger
plus a midfield general who should be fast and youngish
we don't need any players over 30 years of age for sure.

I would drop Danny Murphy, and put Etuhu and Lowe in front of the back four. However, we will need to buy a strong midfield general as i see Lowe as a stop gap for the time being.

Murphy, like Dunn has no pace, no running and no tackling in him, which means our defense is often being overloaded by opposition midfielders just running at them.

With Etuhu / Lowe, we have a more robust 'back six' which means less goals conceded but this creates a bigger problem as there's no one to feed the strikers. Therefore fewer goals scored. Hence, bigger midfield gap to fill behind Rhodes, hence there's a lack of attacking support which is restricting striking opportunities.

So come you Rovers fans, lets get behind the team and show were all together on the road to promotion soon.

Another good move in my opinion, two positive steps in two days. I think Berg could do really well for us, as well as renaming the stand, it brings back a lot of that rich history that might be a little faded in the memory. After two years they're finally getting things right, better late than never. Quite happy with all of this. The future seems bright once again.

Sounds much better than the Venkys Stand! I think a little bit of credit (not too much) needs to go to Venkys for showing some respect for Rovers traditions and legends. They've used sensational publicity to get their name broadcast around the world in association with big names like Maradonna, Schuster, Solskjaer, Redknapp etc. OK, we don't like that but from their perspective there is no such thing as bad publicity.

On the other hand they've appointed a great Rover as manager who wants to unite the club again and get us back on track. As far as I know, he is his own man, he's passionate about BRFC and he respects the fans. I think he will do all he can to get everybody pulling in the same direction. That is a bold step by Venkys.

If Berg is an Anderson puppet, if he is only employed to satisfy the Ewood staff and old mates club and if he only took the job because he was desperate and nobody else would have him - then he or she who KNOWS that, please state your factual evidence. If, as I suspect, the smellies and other Mr Angries have lost touch with reality and have repeated themselves so much that they totally believe their own make believe conspiracy theories, then I hope they will shut up and be open to the fact that they might be wrong. We all make mistakes.

Bryan Douglas and Ronnie Clayton were model professionals, Rovers through and through and are role models that every player who steps out onto Ewood would do well to follow. Henning Berg's job now is to be as sincere and humble as those legends were because if he is, BRFC can become great again.

Well done Blackburn Rovers, two sucesses in two days. Glad to see Dougie given his true recognition at last, alongside his best mate Ronnie Clayton. If the present players have only half the dedication and ability of those two legends, then the Rovers are in for some very happy days. Welcome Henning Berg back to Ewood Park, where you made a lot of people proud of you, when you were last with us. I hope you can now lift this team to the greatness of the teams you played in, because I know Blackburn Rovers and its loyal supporters deserve nothing less.

I agree fans need to back Berg and in my opinion the defence is what needs strengthening....
a natural RB and LB are needed if Givet is staying at CB
orr isnt particularly brilliant and lowe isnt a RB... even though hes done well to say its not his natural position...
would love to see Stephen Warnock come back to the club after his short loan spell at Bolton (sure it was only 3 months)
I agree Murphy needs to go... hes proper past it as is Dunny im afraid he cant hack it anymore hes always getting injured.
I wish N'Zonzi was still there but im still not convinced by Etuhu
Give the likes of Rochina, Vuckcevic and other forgotten men a chance
might as well throw goodwillie in there since hes back.

Ordinarily this would be a good gesture....unfortuna
tely it just appears like a trade off for bad publicity. In return Bryan gave his backing (on the very same day) to Berg being the new manager....these gestures are always strangely made when potential bad publicity is in the offing...the last one was renaming the Blackburn End on the weekend "Agent" Kean was convicted of drink driving. Shame on Venky's, shame on Kentaro. Keep on asset stripping/lining your own greedy pockets and the names of the stands will be irrelevant. Anyway, this is about not only a legend but a really true gentleman. I have known Duggie ( from a distance) all my life. He was my first hero in Blue and White. He ran past me so close I would get mud splats sitting on the benches on the perimeter track as the kids used to then. I went to Wembley in 1960 at the age of 6. They were a different breed then , footballers!
In the intervening years I have met Duggie a few times in th lounges on Corporates and he will always chat to fans and is always gracious
I am very happy that the club have made this tribute and I hope that all football fans appreciate it, especially as these guys are fading out now, thinking about the recent death of John Connolly, another great footballer in whatever shirt he wore.

Pleased that Bryan Douglas has got some recognition for his services to Blackbuirn Rovers - he comes from an era when the club was run on an 'honest set of principals' a family club club with real 'traditions' - unfortunately the current 'Managing clowns' have manged to loose all that and get relegated in less than two years. Yes we have become a third rate club with no 'principals' and now installed a 'third rate Manager with little experience or track record of any real success'!!!
It looks like the fans first choice of Mr Holloway could be on his way to Crystal Palace - if he is I wish him well, better there than with Messrs Shaw, Agnew and Shabby Singh - our 'circus' will continue as usual with 'matinees and late night showings' in abundance!!!

Not the right thread for this but...

Smelly, aka Ronnie Clayton / lancs Pensioner/ etc etce tc is the only PR account holder on here. Call him what you like but he holds about 70 % of the accounts on these pages . He obviously does not have a job other than posting on here 24/7. What is his agenda?? You have all read the filth and hate he spouts so he is either : completley bonkers, a hate filled dingle or just a Troll with no other interest in football (possibly all three)
I have one account and have used it for a few years now to try to counter the worst excesses of this loon
the SK years have been a massive gift to him and he has been happily trolling on here with aready supply of ammo from the Venkys/Kean.
It is all very obvious now that as we start to get back on track that he is becoming increasingly desperate to keep the hate going.
Let all real Rovers have a boycott, yes, of this man and even this site. Do not respond and watch him die of frustration as he chokes on his own bile
A final word from me to the Multi post Monster
I will warn you now, under the Comms Act I can and will report you to the police and insist that they follow it up if you , incite hatred, use race based language or severe or untrue allegations against a third party (any third party it does not have to be me)
I wonder what they will find on your hard drive then? Better dust off your skeletons mate, they may be dragging them out soon

I was 17 in 1960. I remember that day well. (The cup final). Disastrous day. We didn't have tickets so thought we'd drive down to Wembley. There was no connection between the M6 and the M1 then. We had a slight bump in the midlands somewhere which rendered the Ford Anglia undriveable. So we had to get a taxi to Crewe, then a train to London. When we finally got to Wembley we couldn't get a ticket and ended up watching the match on the telly through a shop window within spitting distance of the ground. The final nail in the coffin of course is we lost 3-0. Oh, and Derek Dougan handed his notice in the day before the game. T****r.

Excellent gesture to a great servant of the club. Well done Rovers on a fitting tribute to one of our greatest ever players.

Why do our threads keep getting hijacked by these toss pots? Go away! As for Duggie, I'm absolutely delighted he has been recognised in his lifetime. Pity the same couldn't happen for Ronnie so he could have seen his honour too. There are two generations of Rovers fans now who never saw these two gentlemen play. They were footballers, true gentle men and blue and white to their core and giants of the game..

Ordinarily this would be a good gesture....unfortuna tely it just appears like a trade off for bad publicity. RIP JACK WALKER...RIP BILL FOX...RIP BLACKBURN ROVERS FOOTBALL CLUB.
Get treatment pal, it was still the right thing to do and apart from the odd doughnut who would disagree.

Well done lad, I'm surprised not to see any spelling mistakes, what with the extra thumbs and the extra chromosome. Now lay back down, like Burnley do every year.
His spelling might be okay but his reading is none too clever. They renamed the Blackburn End after Ronnie Clayton last year.

I am sooo not bluffing, I have had enough of this tripe from you
What a super t00ser, go and count the trains you eeedjert.

A fitting tribute. Now please can we make the Riverside the "Tony Parkes Stand" before Shebby realises there's a self promotion opportunity he han't exploited yet !
Why would you do that??? Oh forgot...of course!! Our leading goalscorer EVER didn't sell his soul to the Venky/Kentaro brand did he?? Renaming stands by Venky's cheapens the names of those involved. An area of respect and remembrance for all Rovers' greats would be a better tribute...where the likes of Alan Shearer and Simon Garner aren't ignored. Only ONE stand should be named...and that is after the greatest of ALL...JACK WALKER!! If the Trust do ever gain control of the club then I would hope everything will be returned to the pre-Venky/Kentaro period!!
And who would be supplying this 'area of remembrance' exactly? Oh, that would be Venky's, wouldn't it, seeing as how it's their club? So you say that the renaming of stands cheapens the names of those people involved, because it was done by Venky's, yet your suggestion for an alternative would be to have an area of remembrance for all players which, using your logic, would cheapen the name of all Rovers players?

Unreal.

What's happening on these pages? More positivity than negativity! Things must be looking up. Let's continue this and look forward to a brighter future without the odious one. Maybe the Venky's have finally got the message and are trying their best! Let's look forward to a great season, terminating in a return to the PL. it may happen or it may not but it is going to be an interesting journey.

Hilarious, see what he's done there? He's taken the that well known wisecrack about Manchester city legend Colin Bell & applied it to us. What a clever, witty individual. Comic genius is what we are witnessing here ladies and gentlemen.

No problem with Berg as the new manager, but don't forget the almost farcical selection procedure, which was purely down to the people running the club. If some people are feeling disappointed, then raising expectations ie ( "surprised by the number and quality of applicants" etc ), was purely down to Mr Singh and all so unnecessary. Here's hoping for a brighter future!

Wild Rover one other thing , all you have to do if you have a serious legal grievance is phone up the LET and complain to the editor , and you know what , they will ask you for Wild Rover is your REAL NAME AND YOUR LANDLINE number ? Then you will be the rabbit in the headlights. And Wild Rover that`s when it all falls apart from you if you had to provide your real name and phone number ,we then will all know who you are ,so it`s better for you to stay anonymous and talk crap about "Comms Act" , you are another scoundrel that hides behind forums and comments pages to try and obtain the high moral ground when in the real world , you ,and for your own greedy, selfish ,personal ,money grubbing reasons you try and defend the dishonest.
Nice try Ronnie ?Lancy / Whatever???
But the Telegraph already has my details as per the requirement to have an account and unlike you I don't have multiple accounts with false names. Furthermore I am known personally to one of the Telegraph reporters so I have nothing to hide at all. The only rabbit is you pal and I am on your case.
Nor am I talking crap about the Comms Act, the law is the law and you are going to find out very soon, I told you not to go too far , you have now
I note you have not denied my allegations so it must be true, as you often say about Colin
