Give Richardson the job, says Accrington Stanley striker

PADRAIG Amond has urged Accrington Stanley to appoint Leam Richardson as the club’s new boss.

Richardson has been put in caretaker charge for this afternoon’s League Two match at home to Bristol Rovers following Paul Cook’s departure.

The 32-year-old had been Cook’s assistant at Stanley after stepping up from the playing squad to be caretaker boss in January after John Coleman’s exit.

“I think Leam should be given the job right now,” said Amond, who worked with Cook at Stanley and at Sligo.

“He knows the club inside out, he knows the players inside out.

“It was difficult last time when he took over because he was coming straight from playing but he was brilliant.

“I’m thankful for what Paul has done for me, but I’m happy where I am and I’m looking forward to the future here.”

Cook made appointed Luke Joyce as captain during his time at Stanley.

“No-one saw it coming,” Joyce said of Cook’s exit.

“I’m thankful to the gaffer for making me captain.

“But Leam has been here a long time and everyone really likes him. We are 100 per cent behind him.”

Good lad Podge, well said. It's what the players want, it's what the fans want & hopefully it's what Leam wnats - no need to look elsewhere

The weight of opinion is that Richardson should get a shot at the job. It would unite staff, players and fans alike and that is what is needed to take the club forward

Nice one Podge, no doubt about it, if Leam wants the job he will get it. The way the team played yesterday made a statement that they want Leam as their manager!
