Rugby: Burnley escape to victory on police raid

BURNLEY showed just whey they are one of the form teams in North Lancs One after escaping from Police HQ with a victory against a side who had not lost all season.

With a last minute cry off Burnley travelled with a squad of just 17 knowing they would have to work hard – and that is exactly what they did.

Excellent running from Ryan Bradley and Chris Baxendale and rucking by back row men, Adam Lee, Ben Healy and Richard Murray, Burnley took the game to their hosts.

And on the back of the strong forward and back play, captain Nino Angelone powered over for Burnley's first try.

Now on top they kept pressure on and Hugo Leaver sent over a penalty to stretch Burnley’s lead to 8-0.

Hutton hit back with a well worked try from a maul closely followed by a penalty to draw level.

But Adam Healy picked the perfect moment to score his first ever first team try, expertly converted out wide by Leaver – which later proved to be all the difference.

Hutton scored the only try in the second half and Burnley withstood a late onslaught for a fine win.
