So Engelbert Humperdink does the Drearyvision Song Flop, aged 76, born in Madras in 1936.

His septuagenarian former hip gyrating & undergarment collector (knickatelist?) fellow songster & Pontypridd born, Sir Tom Jones is 71.

Singers, song writers, singer/song writers…there’s a lot of them about it would seem at the moment.

Neil Sedaka, not my cup of tea but at 73, what a phenomenal list of great songs to his credit.

I see Telegraph Features Editor John Anson interviewed the Brooklyn crooner recently. Wiki describes him as “Singer-songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist, record producer”.

He’s written songs for, going back to Connie Francis in the 50s/60s & about (Oh) Carol (King) in 1960. Even our own Peter Kay made a few bob out of “Amarillo”!

My Hero of the Pop Charts Paul Simon is 70.

Robert Zimmerman aka Dylan, my wife’s life time favourite, 71.

The “and” bit of Simon, Arthur Garfunkel is of a similar age to his “mate” Paul Simon!

Another Knight of the Larynx, Cliff Richard is 71. “Congratulations” go to Sir Cliff, another Indian born pop star.

Old gravel voice, now crooner “if you think I’m sexy” Rod (the Mod) still packs the Albert Hall whenever he plays there.

The McCockney, aka Mr Penny Lancaster, ex lead singer with Jeff Beck & The Faces is 67.

Touring at the moment David Cassidy is only 62. But Barry Alan Pincus aka Manilow, who didn’t write the song (Beach Boy Bruce Johnston) that makes young girls cry is 68.

Our women survivors in the pop world include:- Canadian Joni Mitchell is 68, US singer/song writer (Suite) Judy (Blue Eyes) Collins, a UNICEF Ambassador is 73, Carole King (formerly Mrs Gerry Goffin) is 70.

After The Shirelles had a US No 1 hit with “Will you still love me tomorrow” in 1961 (first by an all girl group) Linda Ronstadt, Ben E. King, Dusty Springfield, Laura Branigan, Little Eva, Roberta Flack, The Four Seasons, Bryan Ferry, Dave Mason, Dionne Warwick, and Melanie Safka as well as by King herself, and Amy Winehouse went on to cover & have success with the standard.

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Why are these Pop Pensionistas still so popular?

Who are the current stars who will survive?

Who is your favourite singer/song writer?

What’s your favourite song (not record, song? What song do you destroy/make up own words, if allowed?
