THE soldiers’ parade in Burnley was to celebrate and acknowledge the contribution made by our troops in an extremely hostile environment, trying to create an environment whereby democracy can help to create a country where the whole population have a say in their future. Our troops’ presence in Afghanistan has gone some way towards restricting the influence of the Taliban and has helped to allow the establishment of schools where girls are educated, something which the Taliban object to on the basis that women should not be educated.
