Letter: Put money into Remploy
4:53pm Tuesday 7th August 2012 in Readers' letters
I am writing in support of Don Rishton’s letter concerning Remploy (LT, July 28). Remploy was established in 1945.
Employment was provided for disabled ex-service men and women returning from the Second World War and today makes a statement on their website that they are going back to their roots by training 40 people to be armed forces champions.
It doesn’t make sense. They cannot go back to their roots by closing these establishments down, Marie Miller said there would be funding for Remploy until 2013 but like all these ministers since 2008 they cause the workforce more stress due to job insecurity and what the disabled do after.
I have been in the Job Centre and seen disabled people in there but they do not get referred to Remploy anymore.
Don has been a big support to Remploy even when he was a Bank Top councillor, the government could put some of the money they pay to chief executives and directors into Remploy as they wouldn’t feel a pay cut from their salaries of £85,000.
