HOW utterly disgusted I was to read about the RAF sergeant who was moved twice in A&E at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent simply because he was in military uniform, the reason being and I quote: “We’ve lots of different cultures coming in and the uniform might offend fellow patients.”

Mark Prendeville was injured in a training accident and taken to this hospital for treatment. Twice he was ushered into empty corners to avoid being seen by other patients.

Mark, a war veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan, must have felt humiliated, to be shunned like this simply because he was wearing his country’s uniform, one I am sure he is proud to wear.

Naturally the East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust apologised for any embarrassment caused saying the member of staff was acting in good faith.

However, it was most insensitive and an insult and should not have occurred in the first place. This was an act of discrimination pure and simple and showed total lack of judgment.
