ALZHEIMERS is an incredibly cruel disease.

Sufferers slip away from their loved ones bit by bit as their condition deteriorates.

They struggle to remember those around them, their personalities change and they become confused and upset.

At the same time their families often feel powerless to help, while also trying to come to terms with knowing their relative will never be the same again.

Much has been done in recent years to raise awareness of the condition.

The Alzheimers Society is spearheading research into its cause and is offering support to all those affected by dementia.

But like all charities it needs the help of the public to keep doing what it does.

That is why it is so great that people like Kailey and Kelsea McGowan want to help.

The cousins have organised a Winter Wonderland Christmas Charity Ball in honour of their grandad Anthony.

They have had to watch as he has struggled to remember who they are and keep in the present moment.

And they also know just how helpful the charity can be — and want to say thanks.

So we wish Kailey and Kelsea all the best for their event and hope they are able to raise a huge amount of money.
