Letter: Different town, same needs

I live in Barnoldswick and have been unemployed in the past. I have a job that pays £6.23 per hour and because of the job I do the goverment won’t let me have a second job - I have to have a certain amount of time off due to the law.

I have two mortgages, one to buy my house and the second was to bring my house up to standard of living. I could not get a grant to do this as I lived in Barlick but yet people in Nelson could get one.

The council said they were on low wages. Yes, so was I.

Sounds like you are a truck driver, Fact is if you work hard you will be screwed by every body, Employers are doing their best to drive wages down to the national minimum rate. If people stuck together we could correct these imbalances. As for a grant I would reapply and push the issue with your local councillors.
