Letter: Value of the games cannot have a price put on it

The sheer euphoria these Olympic games are producing cannot have a price put on it.

The good-will generated will repay itself many times over and the money spent on these games should be seen as a wise investment in the future stability of Britain.

mmm
methinks you watch the BBC too much!

Personally I think the future stability of the country could be better served by spending the billions on the million under 25's who have no job and little chance of a future unlike the chosen few sports people who for the most part had become millionaires even prior to the games begining.

Or even the NHS which was ironically lauded as something the UK is proud of in the opening ceremony but is being systematically deconstucted by the current government which I do believe Mr Coe is a life member of.

Maybe he should donate the income he has gained from these games to the NHS and I might agree.

good will? euphoria? government slash and burn for people with disabilities scrap heaping under 25 year olds and we applaud the bread and circuses? a ruse used since roman times to pacify us plebs.

I see David Cameron was saying we should encourage more sport in schools, At the same time his education minister has authorised the selling off 20+ school playing fields.

Just to state; I never wrote the above as a letter, it was in reply to some shameful comments about the Olympics claiming them to be a waste of money. Why the editor chose it as a lead letter is beyond me.

Obviously, the Olympics are a great investment and those who have buried their heads in the sand and refuse to celebrate a global event at which their fellow citizens excel have my deepest sympathies.

Chris, our 'fellow citizens' will be earning multi-millions in sponsorships and advertising etc on the back of the olympics (that the rest of us paid for).

These millions of pounds will be loaded onto the products we buy.

These winners win many times over, at our expense.

The Romans had ''bread and circuses''.
Apparently so do we.
