Letter: How to annoy road users

Let's re-lay the A666, ask if any works are required first and then go ahead. Drivers will put up with that as the road will be better after.

We'll ask, but NOT any person who knew gas works needed doing on that same stretch.

I know – let's help the traffic and close that section for three weeks just to tell the people of Darwen we don't care. I mean, you could not allow that to take place in Manchester but Darwen is nothing compared to even Blackburn.

Let's add more fun shall we, and close off the bridge at Lower Eccleshill Road for the same time – that'll definitely upset the Darwen folk with the extra traffic chaos. We'll make them pay for those who upset us by forcing the bus lane idea to be abandoned Now then add the new proposed changes to Lucite at the same time to make sure people can't get to the display so no one can make an appeal over the fact we will destroy all parking opposite the businesses on the A666 and ruin the town at the same time, one way to make Blackburn with Darwen be changed back to just Blackburn.

Ever got the feeling this council wants rid of Darwen?

We've had the floods and that didn't work so let's force them out of Darwen another way.

We can hide behind the fact we KNEW this was going to happen but we will simply just tell everyone there is nothing we could do about it.

Excluded again says...

The works on the A666 are not the responsibility of the Council. So the Council did not know they were going to happen.

They are being done by the National Grid and the Thatcher government removed the right of Councils to co-ordinate roadworks when they privatised the utlilities.

Electric, gas and water companies can just tell the Council 'we're digging up the road next week' and there is bugger all the Council can do about it.
