Letter: ‘Sex workers’ are victims

They call them ''sex workers''. In reality, these people are victims. No one would do that job unless they were desperate.

They need help and advice, whether that is to get off drugs, or to sort out their finances, or whatever.

Remember the five prostitutes who were murdered? That caused the authorities to DO something positive about the problem. Most if not all got their life back on track.

Many are called (via website).

It is high time we grasped the nettle on this problem, Just what the answer is I don't know however I am sure the girls involved would tell us, What is not needed is the moralist's spouting their poisonous bile. There has to be a better way to manage this type of problem.

You are right for a certain percentage of 'sex workers', however there is also another percentage who do this work purely for the money and lifestyle it allows them to lead.

If this is their choice in life, who is anybody to say whether it's right or wrong?

It's all very well stamping the word 'victim' and 'problem' on these workers but there still has to be Someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and work with the desperate. It's not for us to judge who is more desperate.

Most are victims of their own idiocity as they got themselves hooked on drugs and now sell their bodies to maintain the druggie lifestyle.

All of us are victims of that. We invent an avenue of contentment and then go down the avenue and experience all the goods and bads of the avenue we have invented and chosen to go down. I don't know anyone who doesn't actually do that. Some people are hooked on being social workers and some are hooked on sex and some are hooked on drugs and some are hooked on god or a lifestyle of controlling someone else and some people are hooked on looking and appearing respectable in public.
