Letter: Are any cars truly British?

With reference to Dave from Burnley’s letter. ‘Support plea is a little hypocritical’, I think he should do some more research.

Although car and other motor vehicle manufacturing in the UK made a profit last year, very little of it is British designed or British owned. Vauxhall is owned by General Motors of the United States. The intellectual property of Rover has been bought by the Chinese. Volkswagen own Bentley car production at Crewe.

TATA (India) produce Jaguar cars in the UK. You see lots of Mercedes-Benz vans and trucks. Ford are American owned anyway.

Will Dave please tell us which pick-up trucks are British designed and made in a British factory owned by a British manufacturer, with no help from outside the UK?

Please don’t include anything you need a HGV license for Dave.

Mr Norman Grant, Blackburn
