East Lancashire police in summer holiday security warnings
7:00pm Tuesday 31st July 2012 in Opinion
POLICE in East Lancashire are warning people to be security minded throughout the summer holidays.
The warning comes as a officers try to drive down the number of burglaries.
Residents are urged to always lock doors and windows when going out, not to leave expensive items unattended, keep shrubs and hedges cut back as they can provide cover for thieves as well as to cancel newspapers and milk if going away.
Chief Inspector Ralph Copley from Lancashire’s local policing unit, said: “It is a sad fact that a significant amount of burglaries and thefts originate from doors being left open or windows not being shut properly, so please take a note of the crime prevention tips being offered.
“Also, if you are going abroad for a bit don’t forget to cancel regular deliveries of goods as opportunist thieves will always be looking for signs of homeowners being away.”
