Cash could have aided High Street

While I welcome the news that Blackburn with Darwen Council have shown signs of financial prudence by under-spending their 2011/2012 budget by more than £6million, I do believe that much of this unused cash could have been put to far better use than sitting in a contingency reserve.

Some of this money could have been used to give our high street the shot in the arm it so desperately needs by slashing parking charges, providing grants to new retailing start-ups and renovating empty units to encourage new firms into the town.

I am confident that the council would have quickly made back the money spent on reviving the high street since it would have been sure to create the much needed jobs that are currently lacking in the town.
