Letter: If the hat fits – and this one did

Margo Grimshaw’s column (LT, July 3) brought back some very happy memories of jumble sales.

Talking to my mum a long time ago, she said: “I loved going to jumble sales, did you?”

“Yes, I did, remember that lovely hat I bought you?”

Mum said she drew the line at hats when you don’t know where they’ve come from, like if their hair was clean or not.

“But you wore it for years,” I said.

“Yes, but only to suit you, it was actually a tea cosy.” For once I was lost for words.
