Letter: A real insight. . . into selfishness

Thank you very much, Mr Alf Hart (Letters, July 4) for your scintillating insight into the rights and wrongs of disabled parking and people.

It is very refreshing to know that there are still individuals of your ilk that think of only themselves.

I worked until 61 at which time I was unable to carry on.

In 2001 I had a very bad accident which resulted in metalwork being put in my right ankle/leg.

I carried on working for another seven years, being made redundant twice during that time.

I then went self-employed until 2008 when I could no longer carry on.

In fact, I probably helped pay towards your education – what for, I really don’t know.

So when people like you start to justify their existence with comments such as yours, I can only hope that you, yourself, don’t need to call on these services at any time in your future.

John Pocock, Darwen.

This shows the selfishness of the thatcher era is still embodied in the mental psychy of people. This is not a society I want to be part of, Like many others who have paid in and done more than our fare share of hard manual graft. It is time for us to take a well earned break, many of us have lost our health to keep a roof over our heads and pay our way, Now the Tories want us to work till we drop. No apology for Black Wednesday when my pension went walkies. If I could get a tiny fraction of a bankers pay off I would never have to bother the state for any support in my old or disabled age, I might even take a holiday. but I am afraid I will have to work till I drop like many others. Until then I would just ignore the snide ignorant comments of Alf Hart. There is nothing good about being long term ill. You need all the help you can get,
I think the game of blame everyone on benefits for the country's ills is well over. With the Banking scandal people have realised who the real scroungers are.
