ALL cemeteries should be prioritised in times like this, as they are memorials (‘Boer War legend’s grave left in a mess’, LT, July 2).
To those who say it is the families’ responsibility, I agree in the main, but what about those whose family has died out?
Are they not entitled to have the grass cut?
As for Private Pitts, he gave everything to his country not once but twice should (along with all others who gave their lives in either world war) have the biggest memorial in the cemetery, with the council legally obliged to ensure it remains in a suitable state of repair.
‘Lest we forget’ can be found on cenotaphs and memorials throughout the country.
How quickly those with the purse strings forget.
