Letter: Jim’s a treasure of Lancashire

I have been a fan of Jim Bowen since the days of the TV series, The Comedians, where the things that were joked about then would give people apoplexy nowadays.

Jim, along with likes of Charlie Williams and Bernard Manning, willfully used racist terms but in such a way as make them seem funny.

The Bullseye series is one of a kind, never to be beaten, and is of cult status in television viewing.

Jasper Carrot once described the show as ‘mind-numbingly great’.

It made them realise that there was somebody worse off than them in the world and that they played darts, as well! Speedboats were given as prizes to people who lived 200 miles from the sea; caravans to people who either didn’t drive or had no car.

That was 40 years ago and I’m still laughing now, testament to the man’s craft as a comedian. I wish you well, Jim, for you truly are a Lancashire treasure.

An Old Accringtonian; their numbers are falling for at least the reason that they're not made anymore.
