Letter: PCSOs are not a PC replacement

I have a problem with the use of PCSOs as they are being used as a permanent police force rather than extra bodies for public events or busy times of the week when you'd want a few extra bodies on the beat.

The police force has been cut to ribbons over the years around here.

First Whitworth’s police station was closed, and then Bacup's.

I’m sure Haslingden’s will go eventually to save more money.

Police Community Support Officer - where have you got the idea that they are just extra bodies for public events and busy times? Are you getting PCSOs and Special Constables mixed up?
