Letter: Retired police for NHS patrol

I think police should be permanently based in hospitals 24/7. How do the council tax payers who basically fund the police pay for this?

Well, how about utilising the police who retired at 48 on obscene pensions, funded by the council tax payers? It would give them something to do, instead of pottering around their gardens.

And you know this because ?

Don't forget,if you ever have trouble don't call a policeman for help because you're condoneing the system of obscene pensions.
Ps.Hope you don't use a doctor either...same reason.

memory man you,ve got it wrong saying they,re all in their gardens - the majority of them are doing second jobs to top up their obscene pensions after taking early retirement due to stress !!

Memory Man seems to have forgotten or does not have his facts straight - police officers pay very high deductions every month from their salaries to fund their pensions. This is because their length of service has to be shorter than other public sector workers due to the physical and stress aspects of the job. Why not have a go at all public sector workers as well because they all have a good pension. These people have all worked hard and paid their tax and national insurance. No one disputes the fact that they have a good pension, but stop moaning about - why not join the force - then you too can benefit - its only 30 odd years of abuse, stress, unsociable hours etc When you have been safely tucked up in bed at night, they have been driving round making sure you are! What about all the extra council tax we pay that covers the shortfall for all those who dont or wont pay theirs!!

I am a teacher and pay a lot into my pension and we cannot retire until 60, do not get a huge pension and have just as much stress. And please don't go on about the holidays. I get 35 days.

Memoryman - what are you talking about - you haven't got a clue. My husband is a police officer who pays a massive amount in contributions, doesn't have a fat cat salary, risks his life, is stressed, works 60 to 70 hours per week but doesn't get paid overtime instead he is supposed to get time off in lieu but doesn't get that because of the staff shortages, gets abuse from people like you, higher than average divorce rates, not spending weekends & holidays with families, won't get any holidays this year because of the Olympics and last year's riots etc, etc, etc- they deserve every penny
