Letter: Wasted cash all Labour's fault
4:21pm Wednesday 20th June 2012 in Opinion
Most of the £12billion wasted on the NHS computer systems got nowhere near any companies.
It was wasted on huge infrastructure within the NHS itself: programmers, analysts, project managers and a whole host of jobs you have never heard of, all paid by the NHS. It was the whole system itself – a huge government project – which spent the money. It was never about procurement, it was about it being a stupid idea in the first place.
For those responsible, see Labour. The huge NHS IT project was Tony Blair’s personal baby.
He set the wheels in motion, and a huge, new, publicly funded behemoth came into force with new wages and pensions and benefits to pay for.
It’s Labour in a nutshell. Huge public spending where pretty much all of it is wasted, and someone else has to struggle to pick up the pieces after it inevitably fails.
Across Europe, the public sector needs huge reform if we are to ever return to normality from a financial perspective. With Labour, though, it’s fingers in ears and business as usual. The country will go completely to the dogs if they ever get back in with their crazy spending mantra.
When are they going to start living in the real world?

Kevin, Colne wrote:Couldn't have put it better myself. Blair had his own agenda and it wasn't for the good of this country or its people. As for the fools taken in by him they will carry on supporting Labour ... Let hope this Govt or another 4th party can sort out the mess and make this country Great again.
I would like to make a couple of points in response to Jack's letter. Firstly, I hold strongly the view that it was a very sad day for the Labour Party when John Smith died. John Smith may well rank among one of the best Prime Ministers this country never had. I am absolutely certain that the Labour Party would be in far better shape today had Smith been able to fulfill his potential. Secondly, whenever I see photographs of Tony Blair today I always form the impression that he looks a very troubled and haunted man. Perhaps Mr Blair is worried about his legacy. If he isn't, then he should be. Thirdly, the best description of Blair's period in office was coined by Larry Elliot and Dan Atkinson and was the title of their book - 'Fantasy Island: waking up to the incredible economic, political and social illusions of the Blair legacy'. It's a cracking read.

Other contradictions to the esteemed Mr Herer, when we talk about the “country will go completely to the dogs” if Labour gets back in includes -
Gideon Osborne’s ‘double dip recession, the doubling of food handouts, Britain's economy sinking into longest depression for 100 years ,higher unemployment, tax cuts for the rich and an increase in quantitative easing and loans to the banks.
Lets not forget the riots last year, the great idea of moving the poor out of London and away from their families/friends/com
munities; cuts to the Police, the attempt at selling public land to the rich and the redundancies in our armed forces EVEN THOUGH they are fighting a land war in Afghanistan.
woof woof Mr Herer
