Letter: Backing down on marriage threat
1:18pm Friday 15th June 2012 in Opinion
I have a really cool friend named Dana.
She received a card in the post from a local politician in Bedford, Indiana, USA, that read - Gay marriage is a threat to traditional marriage!
She called him and said, “I've been happily married to my husband for six years. How do you figure that two gay guys getting married is a threat to our marriage?”
He tried to backpedal and said, "Well, maybe not your marriage specifically."
She said, “Oh no, that's what you said! You said gay marriage is a threat to our marriage! That's what it says right here on this card!” He had to back down.

There is no claim that the gays want religious institutions to be forced to marry people of the same sex; just that the civil ceremony part be equally available to both hetero and homosexuals.
.
Not that there is a disparity in that straight couples cannot have a civil partnership, even if they wanted to. Why is that do you think?
