Comment: East Lancs Euro fans, take a bow

ENGLAND’S first match in Euro 2012 passed off without incident in East Lancashire.
Historically major summer tournaments have led to trouble with people using the matches as an excuse to drink too much and misbehave.
The fact that the draw with France saw no disorder is something to be very satisfied about.
Our big summer of the Jubilee, Euros and Olympics has always had the potential to cause problems in town centres.
Police have already launched crime crackdowns with increased patrols as well as stop checks for suspected drink drivers and support for victims of domestic violence.
Officers say that incidents always rise during these type of events.
The lowering of expectations from fans of England’s prospects at the finals could possibly be diluting tendencies to drink too much.
But the people of East Lancashire showed during the Jubilee how well behaved they could be while a major celebration was taking place.
A big occasion obviously does not necessitate a big drinking session followed by violence.
Let’s hope that England continue to perform well in the tournament and the team is supported in East Lancashire without trouble.
