  • "In my day neighbours or relatives used to help in taking people to hospital particularly in case of emergency. Have any of these people thought of ringing NHS Direct or calling at their local Walk In Centre to check whether they actually need a hospital?. It may surprise Izanears to learn that GPs are actually human beings and some even have families who need to see them once in a while!. If anything I think Ratbag has probably under -estimated the cost of an ambulance call out & Mavrick is either incredibly naive or incredibly stupid and needs to get out more."

Letter: It's all too easy to call an ambulance

Ambulances are delayed because there are numerous jobs they are attending that don't need an emergency ambulance.

It costs approx £700 per call that is taken to hospital. People need to start asking themselves if I was made to pay that would I still ring an ambulance or would I make my own way there?

Once people start doing that the crews will be available for real emergencies. It is too easy to ring an ambulance for non-emergencies.
