My only "compact" made an additionally interesting read this weekend..."most borrowed books of 2011"...

I'm afraid I don't use our libraries & am not really happy with them being stocked by donation or staffed by volunteers...But I guess the old adage about "use it - or lose it" applies?

Anyway, in non fiction, Paul O'Grady has 2 entries, presumably autobiographical, tucked in behind another Bryson.

Not sure what "Eat, Pray, Love" is about but the next six are by Blair, French (no Saunders), Walters, Phinn, Fry & Brand.

In fiction, a guy called James Patterson writes or co-writes 5 out of 10 with a new (?) Dan Brown at No 1! Lee Child has 2 entries & there's a Rankin too in these rankings.

Five Classics are topped by Mockingbird. Then Catcher in the Rye, 2 du Mauriers & 1984.

Some unexpected choices, but what would you have added?

I've just read the latest Robert Goddard & a biography about wicket keepers! "Howzat" do I hear?

Do libraries have a "shelf life"? Do we read enough?

Last time I read a lot consistently was when our offspring were little... Each Peach Pear Plum? Where is the Green (was it) Caterpillar?

Do we read enough to our children & grandchildren?

Are the book's day's numbered? Should we turn over a new leaf?
