Letter: We need more people-power

4:05pm Thursday 16th May 2013

ABOUT the story on the 300 residents marching in protest against plans to build new homes in Clitheroe – do the paltry turn-out figures for the recent Lancashire County Council elections (where the highest turnout was only 35%) not suggest that there is total apathy in East Lancashire (as in the rest of the country)?

Letter: No shortage of empty properties

4:06pm Thursday 16th May 2013

But why do they have to be built? It’s not as if there’s a property shortage in Lancashire when there are more empty properties than people wanting them.

In 2006/07 Lancashire County Council adopted the ‘Standard School Year’ to a pattern determined by the Local Government Association.

Letter: Pupil absence rules unclear

4:04pm Thursday 16th May 2013

IF East Lancashire parents are to face tougher fines for holidaying during term time (LT, May 13), this rule will probably get abused depending on the parents’ relationship with the teachers, and will not be consistent from one family to another or from school to school.

Letter: Don't advertise the adders

2:49pm Wednesday 15th May 2013

IF she had that bad of a reaction to an adder bite, maybe she should get tested for allergies as it sounds like she’d have the same reaction to a bee or wasp sting.

Letter: Wasps are more dangerous than snakes

2:44pm Wednesday 15th May 2013

WITH reference to the story ‘Dog walker bitten by snake near Haslingden reservoir’ (LT, May 10), wasp stings kill far more people in the UK through anaphylactic shock than adders.

Letter: Poisonous is a misnomer

2:48pm Wednesday 15th May 2013

Poisonous does not mean venomous. I think it unlikely that the snake was in fact poisonous, given that there are only one snake I know of that is poisonous.
