RECENT letters (September 16) regarding Blackburn Bus Station from M Kennedy of Rishton and H Hamer are a bit wide of the mark.
Whilst, of course, it is very disappointing that the new bus station has been delayed, this is mainly because of the previous contractor (as reported in the Lancashire Telegraph). In addition, the cost of the scheme is within budget, also reported in the Lancashire Telegraph.
H Hamer suggests that Council Tax may rise due to the ‘waste’. However this won’t happen as the scheme is within budget and the money to pay for it does not come from the council coffers, but from the Government funded Pennine Reach scheme – which is also funding Accrington bus station and the various road schemes, bus shelters etc along the Darwen to Accrington corridor.
