RE: FOOD hygiene shock as 120 outlets deemed in need of urgent or major improvements (LT August 17).

In that article the Halfway House at Clitheroe Golf Club was listed as having scored a rating of one from a food hygiene inspection carried out by Ribble Valley Borough Council.

I wish to clarify the situation in that the Halfway House was inspected in January 2014 and given a score of one due to no hand washbasin being available.

Once the report was submitted the hand washbasin was fitted within three working days.

The health inspector did not return to re-inspect and therefore the non-conformance was never closed down.

Our chef has spoken at length to the chief health inspector and explained that no food preparation takes place in the Halfway House as it is only a holding station.

The temperature of the warmers, fridges etc is carried out daily and a maintenance sheet is provided for staff to carry out cleaning procedures.

On Wednesday, August 19, a Ribble Valley health official made a random inspection covering the main kitchen, clubhouse bar area and the Halfway House at Clitheroe Golf Club.

He has confirmed in writing after his inspection that a maximum score of five has been awarded.
