I SIMPLY love your articles in the LT featuring old Blackburn.
Reading your article entitled ‘Archive gives a rare glimpse of long lost era’ was most interesting. The photograph showing the covered market stalls and the old Market Hall really brought back memories for me.
As a child I used to go into town on a Saturday with my mum shopping and the outdoor market was a sight for sore eyes as they say.
There were loads of different stalls all selling their wares and there was plenty of choice, whether it be fresh fruit and veg, clothes etc. The choice was endless.
OK, so you had to stand in a queue at times with rain dripping on you but the atmosphere was fantastic.
I remember the old fish market, the guy who sold carpet and lino, rolls of it all stood up in lines.
These were the good old days, sadly never to return.
Today, markets don’t have any atmosphere and don’t really encourage people to visit.
