PLANS to change the content of a number of GCSE and A-Level exams from 2017 have received a backlash from East Lancashire teachers.
The plans outlined by Schools Minister Nick Gibb could lead to students having to change the topics they cover in a variety of subjects.
Teachers say not only is this disruptive but it will cause them hours and hours of new work as they will have to plan months of lessons.
The GCSE subjects that could be changed are astronomy, business, economics, engineering, geology, psychology and sociology.
The AS and A-level consultation includes design and technology, environmental science, history of art, music technology and philosophy.
The unions say the planned moves will leave teachers not knowing whether they are coming or going, with work aimed at even Year 7 affected.
Surely all these subjects do not need a full overhaul?
What will happen to the students already studying these subjects? Will it affect their chances of good results?
Once the syllabus is selected, students and teachers should have the confidence to know the content is correct.
So, come, education bosses – don’t make things even harder for our teachers and students.
