RE: MUSLIMS’ cemetery plan back on agenda (LT June 26).
People should spare a thought for all the residents who live close by Pleasington Cemetery in Blackburn, and also for the visitors to this cemetery who quite often find their access blocked at the time of a large Muslim funeral.
People of all faiths are buried in Pleasington Cemetery and family/friends have the right to visit at any time during the permitted hours and should never find their access blocked. The council know all about this and have been challenged in the past, but to no avail.
As recent as in the last 14 days, an e-mail and a letter has been sent to the council’s director of environment and leisure but no acknowledgement has been received.
No real thought has been put into where all the mourners are expected to park. Anywhere and everywhere seems to be the norm.
In an attempt to have this complaint escalated, I call upon the council leader Mohammed Khan to intervene and take an active interest in an issue which affects many people who are entitled to visit their memorial but sometimes have to turn away because of the approach road being totally blocked.
