THE actions of a Blackburn charity this week show the true spirit of Ramadan.
Volunteers from Bayt Muhammad Academy were out on the streets on Saturday afternoon delivering warm food to their neighbours and a nursing home at St Margaret’s Court.
Meanwhile another group from the charity travelled into the town centre to provide food to those without any permanent accommodation or support.
All the while members were observing their own fast during the holy month, which means they cannot eat or drink during daylight hours.
Ramadan gives Muslims a chance for a period of reflection, prayer, charity and kind heartedness particularly towards neighbours and the disenfranchised in society.
And this was a great chance to show others what Ramadan really means and doing good at the same time.
It was also a brilliant way to bring the community together and share understanding.
The charity also said it taught their youngsters an important lesson.
In all more than 30 adults and children took part and the reaction was very positive.
In fact it was so successful there are now hopes that an even bigger event can be planned next year.
