Re: Local politics is a ‘shambles’ (LT Letters, June 1) A very interesting read but what exactly does it mean? Quote: “How many hands in the air does the local Labour group want?”.

In this country we hold local and general elections, the electorate votes for whoever it wants, like, fancy, believe in or whatever. This is the way.

So,with that in mind can we no longer have a free vote because it ‘puts more hands in the air’?

The recent general election made me sick. I just couldn’t believe how the country voted in the Tories with such a vast majority, but, and a very big but, that is how it works, so if Turner, Heys and friends don’t like it, that is the way of a democracy.

Roy Davies lost his seat because he got fewer votes, nothing to do with hands but very much to do with feet. People walked in to the polling station and voted against him.

Have you considered it might just have something to do with the fact he is a Lib Dem? They lost massively throughout the country. Why should Darreners have to be different?
