LAST week I had cause to take my eight-year-old granddaughter to hospital to be checked out after she fell from a climbing frame.

We went to the non-urgent department at Accrington Victoria at 4pm.

We got booked in, saw two nurses and, due to the severity of the fall with wrist and back injuries, were advised to go to the Royal Blackburn Hospital as Accy Vic didn’t have the correct facilities to check her back injury. That was at 4.25pm.

We arrived at RBH at 4.45pm. We got booked in again, saw a nurse, then a doctor. She then had x-rays on both injuries.

Fortunately, her back was okay but she had fractured her wrist. She had a pot put on her wrist/arm and we left at 6pm, in plenty of time for her to get her tea and, more importantly, get to Ewood Park for the Liverpool match.

The RBH has had a lot of bad press recently which I find hard to believe after our experience.

My heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to both hospitals for the caring way they treated her and, as you can imagine, they were very busy at the time.

Well done Accy Vic and the RBH. You’re both a credit to the NHS. Many thanks again for the compassion you showed and the speed with which you reacted.
