ISN’T it a little odd to think that our town got its name from a rather murky river, or what was a rather overgrown, dirty stream.

I do love Blackburn, with its impressive town hall, great King George’s Hall, and the very grand and very historic cathedral, We have our wonderful indoor and outdoor markets and shopping centre and I wonder what other town of our size can claim to have as many parks and open areas, which are a real asset?

Oh! And we mustn’t forget that we can proudly claim to also have our own local newspaper.

I think you will have guessed by now that that I am very proud to say ‘Blackburn’ to people when they ask ‘and where is it you live?’ I must admit though that I think, a lighter name might describe my town a little better; now there’s a thought – if you could rename our town would you?

I must admit I have tried very hard, but I have not managed to think of anything up to date.

On another note, it’s true that we don’t appreciate the value of our teeth until we start to lose them, it’s only then do we realise our important they are, not only as eating equipment but because of the value they add to our appearance.

When I was about 11, I was sitting very dangerously on top one of those green boxes that I think are something to do with the phone people, when I slipped, banging my teeth, which broke.

Ever since then they have been a constant problem.

Do people with good teeth realise just how lucky they are?

While I was bathing and grooming my little dog the other evening I was thinking, and wondering, have I deprived her?

Oh! I know that I haven’t done so physically, but have I emotionally?

I mean she is 13 years old and never seen another dog.

For exercise I just let her run about in the garden, which she seems to enjoy, but should I buy a leash and take her out?

I must admit she seems very happy, but it’s me that’s wondering whether I am depriving her of something.

So, all you dog experts out there please tell me what you think.

My daffodils are in full bloom, is there any other symbol as potent?

They shout out the winters over and spring is here!
