RE: 100,000 call for slaughter ban (LT, January 30).

I was disgusted to read that despite a petition of more than 100,000 signatures the government is still refusing to ban religious slaughter.

I am in total agreement with vets chief John Blackwell who says that ministers cannot ignore the strength of public feeling when it comes to animal welfare.

I, like countless others, think this form of killing is barbaric. The government decision is a good point to remember when choosing who to vote for in the forthcoming election. Even animals have rights.
