Re: Possible fracking sites from Blackburn to Burnley to be monitored (LT, January 16) Here we go. The fracking debate once again rearing its big, ugly head.

I see we are being threatened by fracking but we now have the support of the British Geological Survey unit. Detect the note of sarcasm? The BGS has already confirmed six sites along the M65 corridor.

Not only that but, as Prof J Ludden says, they ‘will be monitoring the environmental impact of shale gas development’.

Have we not had it thrust down our throats ad infinitum, fracking will not affect the environment?

Then another ‘eminent’ prof Rob Ward says: “Hydraulic fracturing of shale rock is a new activity within the UK which, as with any subsurface activity, will induce changes”.

Once again, the same inference of safety being shown as a complete myth.

I not only hate the idea of ‘fracking’ but would also like to remind the public of the poison and devastation introduced into the ground for the sake of an industry that has no thought other than big bucks for investors.

This whole thing needs to be put into perspective, the truth told and a massive halt put on it.

Just look into the wanton destruction caused in the USA and then say we need the same.
