RE, CARNIVAL PLAZA: Public asked to help name new Blackburn ‘festival square’
Due to the fact that all of the new building that has taken place recently within Blackburn town centre to coincides with Jack Straw’s farewell next year surely if Blackburn Council had its way then obviously it would be called Jack Straw’s Way. But heaven forbid, no. Jack Straw’s way is the result of what Blackburn has turned out to be today.
Blackburn is what it is and the suggestion to call it something similar to what Loraine Jones suggested “Carnival Plaza” to “emphasise fun and bringing people together is outrageous. If anyone can ever think that the people of Blackburn are full of fun and games living together in harmony. Well, they must be living somewhere else.
Jack Walker Square is another silly suggestion. Although it does carry a hint to what Blackburn Rovers has become that it is now owned by someone from the other side of the world I think that would be like rubbing salt into the wounds.
Probably Wayne Hemingway‘s suggestion to call it simply ‘Cathedral Square’ would be the most sensible.
