Three cheers for Emma Birchall for being so open about her stammering. Re: East Lancs hospital manager: Life is easier now I don't hide my stammer (LT, November 14).
The fact that Ms Birchall is being open about her stammering will help others.
The article also mentioned the great work of the British Stammering Association in helping stammerers of all ages.
The BSA is an excellent organisation and a role model for stammering organisation's in other nations.
I only wish that the UK media would give more coverage to the BSA.
Here in the US, the Stuttering Foundation (www.stutteringhelp.org) is the big organisation. Its website offers many free resources which can be accessed by people anywhere in the world.
The Stuttering Foundation has an extensive global outreach to more than 135 nations annually, mainly to underdeveloped countries where speech services are not great.
Personally, I enjoy the Celebrity Corner section of their website with in-depth articles on famous stammerers such as Rowan Atkinson, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Lewis Carroll, Gareth Gates, Noel Gallagher, Paul Young and more. It is heartening to know that famous people share this stammering problem.
