Venturer Vermentino 2013, £4.99, Aldi
Some things in life aren’t easy to explain. Here’s an example, a lovely lemony dry white from Sicily made with Vermentino grapes best known for being grown in Sardinia.
It’s part of the new Venturer range of six very interesting European wines newly launched by Aldi. The conundrum is just how they manage to do it for £4.99!
Venturer Nero D’Avola 2013, £4.99, Aldi
Here’s a second of the six which also comes from Sicily, a region of Italy with an ever growing reputation for classy wines.
Nero D’Avola is a local variety of red grape, also known as Calabrese. There are red cherries and other dark fruit with a hint of smokiness and an alcohol level of 13%. Another bargain buy.
