A COUPLE have shown their devotion to the Clarets’ cause by naming their new son after 14 members of the first-team squad.

Baby Jensen, given the name after mum Amanda’s favourite player Brian Jensen, might have been born a Claret, but he carries the surname of Lancashire rivals Preston.

Six-week-old Jensen has been given the name of every player who appeared for Burnley in the opening game of the season against Nottingham Forest.

His full name is Jensen Jay Alexander Bikey Carlisle Duff Elliott Fox Iwelumo Marney Mears Paterson Thompson Wallace Preston.

He was given the name Jay, rather than Rodriguez, so he could be nicknamed JJ by his parents.

Amanda, 41, and dad Stephen, 40, who live in Colne, have already brought Jensen a season ticket for next season, and he went to his first game at just eight days old.

Stephen said: “We had already decided to call him Jensen as he is Amanda’s favourite player, but we couldn’t decide on a middle name so we thought why not go for the whole team.

"We have seven children between us and this is going to be our last so we thought why not go for something different. Our friends and family think we’re mad.”

Amanda said: “It’s a bit unfortunate that Preston is his surname but what can you do.

“We haven’t considered changing it by deed poll. It might be a bit expensive for a family of nine.”

Stephen said: “We’ve had a really good run since he was born, so hopefully he can be the lucky charm that gets us promoted.”

Jensen is not the first baby to be named after a Burnley player.

In 2009 Adi Moore and Leanne Lambshead, of Nairne Street, Burnley, named their new son Robbie-Blake Moore, after Robbie Blake’s winning goal against Manchester United in the Premier League.

But within a year Blake had left Burnley to join Bolton.
