THOUSANDS of people took to the outdoors in Lancashire over the weekend in record October temperatures.

Temperatures soared last week and culminated in a record-breaking Saturday when it reached 28.5 degrees celsius in the area – making it the warmest October since 1985.

Scores of people sunbathed, families enjoyed the sun at local parks while others cooled down in streams and rivers.

But the warm weather looks set to be over for this year with wet weather yesterday set to continue through the week.

The Met Office forecasters predict that the damp weather is set to continue throughout the week with light drizzle and showers.

And they have predicted heavy rain by the end of the week.

But despite the rain, this week is likely to remain warm for the time of year with highs of 19 degrees.

Gareth Harvey, forecaster at MeteoGroup, said: “The weather will be fresher on Tuesday.

"Temperatures are still going to be above average, but not well above average.”
