Meterologists recorded East Lancashire’s wettest day of the year yesterday.
Hunocat expert Roy Chetham said in a 24 hour period from Wednesday morning to yesterday morning, 1.5 inches of rain fell.
The normal amount of rainfall for the whole of August is usually between three and five inches.
Mr Chetham said: “For one-and-a-half inches to fall in one day is quite exceptional, although not unheard of.
“It’s certainly been the wettest day of the year so far, and possibly the wettest day for longer than that.”
The Met Office said today is expected to be cloudy with rain easing.
