MORE than 300 cyclists and some surprisingly nice weather helped make the mayor's charity cycle ride a huge success.
The 12 mile ride from the Cutty Sark to Erith, travelled through the Old Royal Naval College and the Mast Pond Wharf development site, in Woolwich, as well as currently unopened riverside paths by the Royal Arsenal site, in Woolwich. It is expected to have raised at least £3,000 to buy computers and educational equipment for disabled children in the borough, one of Councillor Jagir Sekhon's charities for the year.
Riders taking part included Erith and Thamesmead MP John Austin, Mayor of Bexley Councillor John Wilkinson, former Greenwich mayor Councillor John Fahy and PC Karen Dawes, who has recently started regular bike patrols.
Councillor Sekhon said: “This was a tremendous event. I was so delighted that so many people turned out in support, and pleased that everyone had such a good time.
“All the riders seemed to enjoy the chance to support a charitable cause while taking part in a lovely ride along the river.”
