New trains bid for East Lancashire in £9bn scheme
10:00am Tuesday 17th July 2012 in Transport news
SEVERAL new trains have been suggested for East Lancashire as part of a £9billion national rail programme.
Work has been approved for the Northern Hub, which will eventually benefit Manchester-bound passengers from East Lancashire, offering initial improvements for services using Calderdale stations like Todmorden and Walsden.
But the package announced by Transport Secretary Justine Greening also includes plans for new services directly serving local stations, to meet projected passenger demand.
A Blackpool to Scarborough service could be introduced, via Blackburn, Accrington and Burnley Manchester Road stations.
And a diesel service, calling at Blackburn, Accrington and Burnley, en-route to Manchester, should materialise after the additional loop is added near Todmorden.
An extra service from Clitheroe and Blackburn to Rochdale and Stalybridge have also been put forward.
