A DEAL has been struck between a Lancashire bus operator and a high street bank which could bring ticketing into the 21st Century.

Transdev, the firm behind everything from Spot On to Mainline buses, has agreed a contract with Barclay’s to use their ‘Pingit’ technology to pilot mobile payments.

Using a service offered by ‘m-ticketing’ experts Corethree, passengers will be able to make instant payment for fares via their mobiles.

The service is being introduced first on Lancashire Bus routes, which include the Spot On, Starship, Lancashire United, Lancashire Way, Witch Way and Hyndburn Connect routes.

Nigel Eggleton, Transdev’s marketing director, said: “This combined partnership will offer passengers a simple and trusted mobile solution that is available to all.”

He believes that the move will produce cost savings for the outfit and keep ticket prices low in future.

The same company has also recently introduced wi-fi on a new fleet of 15 ‘Witch Way’ buses running between Nelson and Manchester via Burnley and Rawtenstall.
