A CLITHEROE motorist who clocked up 29 points, almost three times the legal limit, could still be on the roads according to data released by the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
The offender, found as the result of an investigation by the IAM, was among the top twenty points-holding motorists in the country for committing nine separate speeding offences in between September and November 2011.
He was convicted for exceeding the statutory speed limit and on one occasion simultaneously for use of a mobile phone whilst driving.
The data comprised of offences dating up to the end of July this year.
While 18 of the top offenders were men the person with the highest amount of points, 42, was a woman from Isleworth in West London.
IAM chief executive Simon Best said: “It’s really disappointing to see that this issue has not yet been resolved.
“DVLA and the Courts Service are upgrading their computer systems to ensure that offence information is shared more efficiently, but this is not due to be in place until October.”
