MELLOR neighbours have spoken out against Lancashire County Council because of pot holes in their road.

Residents in Brookfield, said they had contacted the council five times since October.

But they said repair work completed shortly after the first complaint had disintergrated.

The pavement was resurfaced on one side of the road which is has many pensioners.

But residents are angry that other pot holes have not been repaired.

The council is now promising to carry out the work.

Terry Murphy, 78, a retired warehouse manager, said the road was being damaged by lorries.

He said: “I can’t believe that the council has not done anything about this hole for nearly 10 months.

“The bad weather and all of the lorries that go back and forth have made it worse.

“The hole was just filled with rubble and they have done a very bad job indeed.

“It’s very strange that the council have bothered to do up the other side of the road and leave this side as worse as ever.”

Vera Bird, 80, who has lived on the road for 11 years, said: “It’s hard for a lot of residents here to actually walk along the pavement because of this hole.

“It makes us prisoners in our own homes sometimes when the weather is really bad.

“If nothing else it’s an eyesore and it needs to be sorted out as soon as possible. It’s absolutly disgraceful.”

Andy Ashcroft, the county council’s highways manager for Ribble Valley, said: “Following concerns over the condition of the pavement at Brookfield, our teams will inspect and repair potholes very shortly. These repairs were planned following calls from Mr Murphy and local councillors.”
